Southern Paddlers - Summer Series Races 5 & 6
Results have been posted. I'll do a description of the races this week, but not a lot of wind!
Big Thanks to: Greg and Tim in the Safety Boat, Su and Pandora on the Timing, Cooka for bringing his boat, Mel for cooking the snags and burgers on Sat evening, the competitors and all the families and kids who would be soundly sleeping by now.

Twilight Race Six

Twilight Six saw great conditions with a nice southerly blowing up the river. Rather than slog into it everyone paddled as a group out to the John Garrow Light for the downwind dash to the CSIRO buoy before heading back to the DSS for the finish.
Div Two set off first with many paddling in the biggest conditions they had ever faced. Scotty Knighton managed to prevail in a big tussle with John Bamford while

Strong North West Coast paddler Luke O'Geary has just signed on as a Stellar sponsored athlete and will paddle the new Stellar SEL Excel for 2012. Luke's sponsorship is a significant leap forward for Tasmanian paddling and will hopefully pave the way for more top flight paddlers to receive some support from other Ocean Ski manufacturers.

Another great Twilight jaunt last night with the popular Garrow to CSIRO course taking advantage of the southerly blowing up the river. Ben Maynard continued his run of first places taking out Div one by a healthy margin over Marty paddling the new Stellar SEL rocketship and then Sprotty who's time off the tools and back on the water is starting to bear fruit.

Another great night of mid week paddling with Div One creating history with the first three lapper ever. What a great idea that was!!!
Good fields in all divisions with Ben Maynard actually being pushed pretty hard by Seb and Cooka in Div One while Andy Flakemore took a strong win in Div 2 over Jordon Russell-Green and John Bamford. Andrew is proof that a stable paddler is a fast paddler having dumped the tippy V12 for a V10 Sport, look out!

Yesterdays second instalment of the 2011/12 Summer Series saw a massive field take on the small but technical conditions. Division One set off from Kingston Beach with a gun field of 21 paddlers blasting off the line towards the pontoon at the far end of the beach. Todd Sargison showed the mind numbing ergo sessions are paying off, setting a blistering pace off the line that few could follow. Ben Maynard rounded the mark in second with Luke O'Geary, Matt Dlaziel, Marty Stephenson and Cooka all desperately trying to stay in contact.

30 Paddlers lined up for last nights twilight blast around the buoys. A massive Div Two field including five of the fairer sex drove off the line with John Bamford getting the chocolates from Andy Flakemore and Marty Demangone.
In the womens Allie Britton just scraped home in front of Jodie Templar with Cathy McCombe taking third. Allie and Jodie's times were good enough for 6th and 7th in Div Two so expect these two to continue to push each other and put the blokes under a bit of pressure as the season continues.
