Norton Dominates
Saturday saw the running of the first Stellar Summer Series event for the season. Conditions were rather dirty with a cold southerly blowing directly on to Carlton Beach. The course consisted of two laps of a shallow triangle. Paddlers started just outside the surf zone and headed towards the eastern point where they rounded a buoy and headed further out to sea to another buoy set directly in line with the Carlton Club house. Once this buoy was negotiated it was a matter of catching the big runs back to the beach and doing it all again.
Div 2 started before Div 1 with Bobby Byrne taking the win from Connor Hurle and Tom Gauden. In Div 1 Sam Norton blitzed the start and quickly disappeared. Behind him Ben Maynard, Warwick Lovell and Todd Sargison formed a chase group just in front of the remainder of the field. These guys regularly swapped positions as they tussled for the minor placings with Warwick eventually getting the upper hand taking second with Ben having a screamer on the last downwind leg passing Todd for third.
Great start to the season.
